Billboard is an American entertainment media brand most regarded for its music charts, including the
Billboard Hot 100 and
Billboard 200, tracking the most popular singles and albums in different genres.
To round off the year,
Billboard released a list of 10
hip-hop and r&b artists to watch in 2017, who, according to them,
“are capable of blowing up in 2017” – and everyone’s favourite
hit-maker,
Tekno, made the cut.
While Tekno clearly resents being regarded as ‘up and coming’,
as we saw with the whole Headies debacle,
even he has to admit that this is an honour – and while we can all
agree that Tekno’s unmistakable sound took over Nigeria in 2016, 2017
seems like the year he finally takes over the rest of the world.

While speaking about Tekno in the article, Billboard writer, Elias Leight, said:
“Tekno
already has a number of hits in Nigeria, and Columbia Records took
note, throwing its weight behind this agile, elastic-voiced singer.
Tekno’s
‘Pana,’ which has already accumulated more than 13 million views on
YouTube and inspired a minor version of a video challenge, is romantic
and light on its feet with little more than a nagging GUITAR line and
squirts of bass, everything pegged to a serpentine forward march.
There’s
clearly a demand in the mainstream for feathery dance cuts like this
one: close your eyes and imagine a smart radio programmer cueing this up
after Drake’s ‘Too Good.'”
